This month we caught up with Jim to find out just what makes him tick! We asked him those ten questions…
1 – What do you do?
I’m sous chef at Restaurant Nathan Outlaw. I help Nathan with the day to day running of the kitchen.
2 – How long have you been an Outlaw for?
This is my third year.
3 – What do you do in your spare time?
Enjoy music, films, tv, learning to fish, spending time with family, friends and cats.
4 – Can you remember your first day?
I can – there was a lot of cleaning to do as it was the first day after the winter break. The kitchen bar had been put in over the break so there was building dust everywhere. Tim was helping me get to grips with things on the pastry section before he went to the Fish Kitchen.
5 – Tell us the best dish you have ever eaten (either at Nathan Outlaw or anywhere else)?
I feel like most of the tastiest things I’ve ever eaten were not fancy things or concieved dishes as such, but a stunning RNO dish that always stands out in my mind was mackerel, onion, parsnip and chilli.
6 – What is your favourite drink?
Though I don’t have it that much, I think probably Apple juice, when it’s good it’s so delicious.
7 – What music do you like and who is your favourite artist?
I like all sorts, and I couldn’t pick a favourite, but generally rock/indie bands, with a few all-time legends thrown in. Currently have a renewed love for Paul Simon after seeing him live recently.
8 – Who would you invite to dinner?
9 – What’s your favourite ingredient?
Too many to have a favourite, but I’ve got a soft spot for parsley, something nostalgic about the flavour and it goes well with all my other favourite ingredients.
10 – If you could eat anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Japan, to see what all the fuss is about 😉
